Question

In recent years, for packaged products the FDA has proposed that companies include the percentage daily value for added sugar on the nutrition label. The primary reasoning behind this proposal is that it would provide information on added sugars comparable to what consumers have been exposed to for nutrients such as saturated fat and sodium that the FDA advises should be limited in consumption. Do you think that this update to include added sugar is necessary? Do you believe that this update will alter how people consume and make consumption decisions on products containing added sugars? Explain the reasoning on products behind your answers.

Explanation / Answer

Yes, I think this update is necessary due to below reasons:

1. Health risk: Would be quite easy for people the check if they are permited to eat the level of sugar added in the product according to their health condition. The inturn avoids health risk.

2. Fitness: Customers can look into their fitness and avoid obesity by consuming limitless sugar content in their daily meal.

3. Awareness: FDA would have done this to keep customers aware of ill effects of eating huge content of sugar.

2.

Consumption decisions:

Yes I feel it will definitely change consumer consumption and buying behaviour

- consumers may reduce buying products with high sugar content being health conscious

- few may totally avoid buying

- They may look for alternative products with less or no sugar content
