Question
Consider the RAID4 and RAID5 data organizations depicted in the above figure.
a) if each access to the disk for reading data involves a single sector, which organization leads to a higher bandwidth for reading? Quantify the difference for random distribution of read addresses. Explain your answer.
b) Repeat part a for write accesses.
onsider the RAID4 and RAID5 data organizations depicted in the above figure. a) if each access to the disk for reading data involves a single sector, which organization leads to a higher bandwidth for reading? Quantify the difference for random distribution of read addresses. Explain your answer. b) Repeat part a for write accesses.Explanation / Answer
Dear, 1) RAID 4 is better for higher bandwidth for reading compare to RAID 5. Here multiple reads occur simultaneously, and it is valuable for reads that need to access only a single drive in an array. 2) RAID 5 is better bandwidth for writing compare to RAID 4. Single sector of disk 5 assigned to hold to check data. Check data simply XOR of all write data values to corresponding sector on each of data disks, the old sector data and old check data values are known. New check data on single sector write can calculated without corresponding read sectors from other disks.
