Question
First of all thanks for taking the time to resolve my problem and when you do please please explain step by step. Thanksssss!!!!!!!!!!!A very special island is inhabited only by knights and knaves. Knights always tell the truth, and knaves always lie. You meet four inhabitants: Joe, Zeke, Marge and Bart. Joe claims that Zeke is a knave. Zeke says, `Bart is a knave.' Marge tells you that Bart could say that Zeke is a knight. Bart tells you, `Joe would tell you that I am a knight.'
So who is a knight and who is a knave?
Explanation / Answer
Start out with Joe telling the truth. That makes Joe a knight and Zeke a Knave. Zeke says Bart is a Knave, so he is a Knight, so Marge is lying and she is a knave. Bart is a knight, so Joe would say that he is a knight. This all holds together. Joe Knight Zeke Knave Bart Knight Marge Knave Start out with Joe lying. That makes Joe a Knave and Zeke a Knight, so Bart is a Knave. Marge must be lying since Bart must lie and say Zeke is not a Knight. But then Bart would be telling the truth when he tells you that the liar Joe would say that Bart himself is a knight. This is a contradiction.
