Question
After graduation, you move to Alabama to take a job working for the Emergency Management Bureau of a small county. You specifically work in the Disaster Preparedness and Recovery section. You notice that your county emergency services has no social media presence. How would you propose establishing social media accounts to your supervisor who is an older member of the Baby Boomer generation with little familiarity with social media? What are some caveats or potential negatives of using social media after a natural disaster?
Explanation / Answer
Social media has it's pros and cons. In disaster management social media will help in reaching people for help and improvement of the effected areas. Hence social media should be included in disaster management, But the negatives of using social media is that it creates unnecessary panic and might become a problem while relocating people from that place. Hence social media must be used but with some limitations.
