Question
I as a Project Manager , will have the below working relationship with the Insulation group:
1. Start afresh: In order to start a project with a positive note, past acquaintances shouldn't be carry forwarded. I would ask my team to ignore the informal speech given by the Insulation manager and emphasize that not all managers will be same in an organisation. Hence treat this client like all other clients being treated in a project
2. Documentation: To be on the safer side would formally document all the meetings and discussions. The trust relationship would have gone down due to Insulation not keeping up their promises.
3. Conflicts: Conflicts can be avoided when everything is put in documentation mode.
4. Formal relationship: Even though informal relationship and being loyal to Insulation would have drastically reduced, being a professional and completing work at the right time with right quality is quite important according to me
Explanation / Answer
Tom Weeks is manager of the insulation group. During a recent group meeting, Tom commented, “The company is in trouble. As you know, we’re bidding on three programs right now. If we win just one of them, we can probably maintain our current work level. If, by some slim chance, we were to win all three, you’ll all be managers tomorrow.” The company won all three programs, but the insulation group did not hire anyone, and there were no promotions. What would you, as a project manager on one of the new projects, expect your working relations to be with the insulation group?
