Both websites make it clear on how they plan to use the data that they have about use and what rights a user when it comes to privacy protection.
b. Are there weaknesses in the policies that could lead to abuses of your personal privacy?
There exists sufficient lacunae in the policies which allows these companies to monetize our private information. Any refusal to agree with these terms can lead to a revocation of one’s access to these websites.
c. Based on your research, which site do you think has the most effective privacy policy? Why?
Twitter has a more effective privacy policy when compared to Facebook. As the default settings there allow for a substantial amount of a user’s private information to be shared with advertisers, who chose to use the website for running ad campaigns. Also many apps on the website force you to part with a great deal of private information much against our wishes.
d. How has this exercise changed the type of information you would share on the Facebook or Twitter Web site? Explain your answer.
Yes, this entire exercise has made me more wary of sharing my data on both the websites. Going forward, I do not see myself being comfortable sharing data on Facebook. I might share information on twitter but even that would be done after careful vetting on what I would like to tweet about.
