3. Explain the benefits and limitations of Natural Language Interaction (NLI).

Explanation / Answer

1. defination:- direct manipulation is defined as a style of human computer interactions which involves continuous involvement of object of interest and rapid, reversable and incremental feeedback.

it has many benefits, as it provides better control over ones use of computing devices. Like when you take of picture of yours and wants to see it later you zoom a particular area to see better. That's an example of direct manupulation. But it has some problems as well, for example in given example above, camera can capture only a limited area of actual scene, while we may miss something which is not in picture, we can not do anything about it.

2. Three principles of direct manupulation are as below:

a) Continous representation of object of interest

b) Physical action instead of complex syntax

c) Continuous action and reversible and incremental feedback.

3. Following are the guidelines for effective use of icons:-

a) use of known or familiar images for objects

b) using limited set of icons

c) well seperation between foreground and background

d) each icons are distinct from other.

e) A selected icon is visible and appears different then unselected ones

4. To ensure the proper usability, following should be taken care of while using 3-D elements to interfaces:

a) it should be user friendly, neat and unclutterly.

b) It should not be too glary, confusing or mind-bogglying.

c) It should have proper depth for effective visualization.
