Explanation / Answer
There are some major differences in the file formats between MS Office 2003 and MS Office 2007.
In MS Office 2007 Microsoft corporation introduced a new file formats for MSWord, MSExcel, and MSPowerPoint, by an "x" at the end of the file extension for all file formats
like for document docx, for excel xlsx , But the problem is these are not backward compatible i.e. not supported for the older verisions .
Major differences between Doc and Docx is,
DOC is the abbreviation of the document or word processing documents of MS Word This is a old file format and is used in 2003 and earlier versions . formatted text, images, graphs can be save here
Where as DOCX is an XML format for document writing in 2007 the benefit of Docx is taking less memory Actually , it takes 75% less size than doc format . It can be easily converted to doc, .html, .rtf and other file formats
Moreover there are several facility that has been added to MS word
like
1)Word document can be converted to pdf or xps
2)Can make the document read only i.e.
Before sharing a final version of a document can use the Mark as Final command to make the document read-only very easily
3)Digital siognatures can beadded in the document
4)Graphics has been changed and spelling error can be correct instantly
there is a huge difference in user interface and XML file format
2007 version is also compatible with some non microsoft applications
Now there are major differences between the digital signatures in MS word 2003 and 2007
In the 2007 edition the digital signature is formatted with XMLDSig, that is different Office 2003
Also, in Office 2007 the digital signature can be found under File, ->Info ->,Protect Document_> Add a digital Signature rather than in Tools-> Security-> Digital Signatures.
It has canged to be more intuitive and easier to fbe founded
There are huge difference between meta data in MS 2003 and 2007 files too
In Office files a huge meta data gathered at the time of saving the file .
It can be specified from document properties of the file
In 2007 the Document properties can be seen by clicking on the Microsoft Office button first, then on
"Prepare" and finally on "Properties"
All auto text fields in general also belong to the dynamic meta-information, as
well as "storages" for repeatedly used text or graphics, which should be used
again. The Standard properties thatm can be changed by the user in from the display dialog like author , title, subject, keywords, comments. The auto text fields belong to the dynamic meta-information, which can be used again.
here are the improvement in the usage of meta data between different file formats from 2003 to 2007
