Difference between career potentials for Purchasing and Supply Management professionals in the public and private sectors

There are several differences between the private and the public sector for purchasing and supply management professionals. It is said that the private sector is more beneficial to opt as a career for such professionals, because in public sector the role of professionals is just a routine to follow, whereas in private sector such professions have higher value to the organization.

There is more learning in private sector as you will get to know how your decisions are impacting the organization.

Because of the Public Contracts Regulations most of the public sector is too risk averse to procure effectively

Where public sector follows a tedious list of rules and regulation to bring a new idea for such professionals, private sector is more open to the concept and will allow the professionals to come up with new ideas and allow them to implement it based on the organizations benefit.

In private sectors, though the professionals have basic knowledge of the subject, still they undergo various training modules to improve in their performance, whereas no such efforts are taken in public sector.

From above points, we can clearly identify private sector as the better place to work for such professionals. And as per my comments, I will prefer Private sector as a career option for purchasing and supply management professionals.
