Question
You work for a hospital in the registration and admissions department, and most of your tasks are performed manually. For example, when an individual checks in, you must obtain personal information, details on an individual’s medical background, and hospitalization insurance. You are a strong advocate for information technology and have proposed to IT management that information systems would be beneficial. The hospital has decided to develop and implement an information system that helps to streamline your processes. Since you have extended personal experience with the processes, and you have considerable knowledge of information systems and technology employed by your counterparts at other hospitals, you have been asked to function as the project business analyst. You will work very closely with the IT department’s system analyst. The system analyst has questions regarding the following: What specifically do you do to complete your tasks? What are your thoughts about how technology might improve your processes? What are the challenges and obstacles that would be overcome with the use of an information system? What are your thoughts about the type of information system that might be employed at your hospital? Based on your understanding, what components would be required to implement the information system? For example, would you need any special hardware or software? In a 3–5-page Word document, be sure to include the following. Summarized list of tasks, or processes, to register and to check in a patient. Benefits of using an information system in support of your day-to-day tasks. Specifics regarding how the information system would help to overcome the present challenges and obstacles. The specific type of information system you recommend (support your recommendation). An outline of all components you see as necessary to implement your recommended information system. Explain how the new information system would help your organization to reduce the overall cost of health care and to improve the profitability of your hospital. Make sure your paper is written in the APA style. You should back up your opinions and assertions with authoritative sources, which should also be attributed.

--> To complete the task a detailed discussion with the management is needed whether the stated requirements are clear, complete, consistent and unambiguous, and resolving any apparent conflicts. Various stakeholders should be identified as who operates the system, involvement of various patient registration or procuring the system etc. Programming language in which whole software will be build and their support once development is over.
Because errors are caused by system or process failures, it is important to adopt various process-improvement techniques to identify inefficiencies, ineffective care, and preventable errors to then influence changes associated with systems. We can write technical requirements from a critical phase which will help us to analyse and fix the software issue i case of a Major failure.
2)What are your thoughts about how technology might improve your processes?
---> Technology reduces hospital's day to day activity such as Patient's registration, patient's check-up history and all other detail at a centralized location which can be easily accessible and available for all the various stake holders (like. Doctors, laboratorian and nurses etc.) on demand. Also, communication systems will improve operations, through calling integrated with video conferencing, instant messaging and emails, key communication can happen more rapidly. We can provide patients with the quick, accurate service around the clock doesn’t need to cost us a huge overhead in staff.
3)What are the challenges and obstacles that would be overcome with the use of an information system?
---> As per question, most of your tasks are performed manually that will be overcame with the use of an information system. Below are some of the key points:
a) Patient's registration process will be simplified and maintained digitally which will be shared/available across the hospital.
b) Various records of a patient can be maintained for a longer period of time. Like...lab reports, last visit at hospital, track of medicines consumed, Insurance etc.
c) Billing process will be more simplified and faster check outs can be done.
d) A patient can get consultation sitting at home by connecting through telephone or skype which is really a great advancement for hospital and a great benefit for emergency patients.
e) Patients can easily check their reports on hospital portals. They are increasingly becoming active players in their own healthcare, and portal technology will be the one tool helping them to do so. Portal technology allows physicians and patients to access medical records and interact online.
4)What are your thoughts about the type of information system that might be employed at your hospital?
---> Electronic Health Record System: Because it reduces the possibility of data duplication. It will allow more integrated and efficient care for patients.
Patient Portal: Will allow patient and their relatives to check patient reports and medicines. They can easily make appointments without visiting premise of my hospital.
Laboratory Management: Patients lab test reports can be accessed frequently and efficiently without wasting any paper.
Central Management System: It will be a centralized repository(database) where all the data will be stored and various stake holder's roles and their access rights. Only admin will be having full control on this system.
Billing System: A billing portal will be made in order to do automated bill generation for all in one expenses like, lab expense, medicine expense, operation expense, consultancy fee etc.
Reporting System: To generate various types of reports and graphs to analyse data and trends.
5)Based on your understanding, what components would be required to implement the information system?
---> Various components are required in order to build and implement the whole information system. Going with sequence,
Database: To store various data at a centralized place.
Internet: To access all the information on the fly and to inter-connect all the devices (computers printers etc.).
Programmers/Developer: Who can develop your software packages and networks.
Computer Operators: To operate newly developed system.
Technical Support Team: Who can support your newly developed information system and solve all the issue which occurs during the runtime/system failure.
Financial Support: To spend on the various IT systems and production cost.
Benefits of Information System
Better and More Accessible Treatment, Improved Care and Efficiency ,Software Improves Healthcare and Disease Control , Communication with members of the medical staff and department heads etc.
