Question

citizen participation in public-sector decision making has benefits as well as drawbacks. Think about the points made in the assigned readings and consider your personal experiences with public-sector decision making. Analyze a decision: Share a decision made by your local or state government and explain how public involvement played a role in the decision that was ultimately reached. Be sure to select government organizations, not private organizations that service the public. • Use correctly cited (APA) in-text citations from at least one outside source to document the facts of the decision-making process and at least one of the assigned readings from this workshop in your initial post.

Explanation / Answer

The Government of India had announced demonetization of INR 500 and INR 1000 in Nov 2016. As a result, the notes of INR 500 and INR 1000 needed to be exchanged for the newer currency notes. The aim of demonetization was to improve GDP and improve the income tax collections of the country. This decision did not have the public’s involvement in the initial stage. However with time, the public showed increasing participation in the demonetization activity and stood in bank lines to get their notes exchanged. The increased involved of the public helped in facilitating the process of demonetization, which in turn improved the country’s GDP by 0.5%.
