a) Differentiate between a MAC address and an IP address in terms of function and characteristics. How does a computer obtain the mapping between another computer’s MAC address and its IP address? Explain clearly.

Answer)

a) The difference is MAC is the unique address which is nothing but an identifier which is associated to the network interface card (NIC) where as the IP address is that which is needed by the device which helps to participate in the computer nework which uses the internet protocol for a system or computer.

The mapping is done when the 7th OSI Layer which has the IP address and the MAC address which is otheriwse a hardware address map with respect to the ARP which maps he IPs .
