You have discovered an interesting arrangement in which one of your coworkers is engaging. Specifically, he blocks his schedule for the hour between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon each day and does not take a lunch break. During this one-hour interval, he is actually running his own real estate business. The Dilemma You recently asked this employee how he manages to pull this off. "Well," he responded, ""the boss and I never talked about it, but she knows what's going on. They know they can't replace me, and I always get my work done. I don't use any company resources. So, what's the harm?" 1. The primary issue in this situation is that the individual is engaging in personal business during office hours and inspite of his manager being aware if the same although she is not able to do anything about if as the employee is a very important resource and they are not ready to replace him in the organization. The employee is just taking advantage of his position in the organization in oder to pursue his own business.

2. I believe that most people would not continue to do such a thing within the office hours because they are aware that the management may come to know and even terminate his terms of employment. Individuals need to have the courage for the same and hence they need to be effective as well. The risk may seem to be quite high and individuals may not be ready to take up this risk.

3. I would have not conducted or pursued my personal business here, instead I would have focussed on doing office job at office time and try to complete it early and pursue my business work that too not during office premises as well. I believe ethically we should have this basic requirements and make sure such activities are not pursued in the office.
