End user database
End user database is one of the category of database software which allows storing and managing data for end users on software such as simple word processors, spreadsheets. These type of software allows users to create their own database which is at their disposal without undergoing complexities of programming and syntax rules.
Let us take example of our own famous MS-Excel as an end user product example.MS-Excel needs no introduction. It has come a long way from its inception in 1982 as Multiplan replacing Lotus 1-2-3 and completely over powering more of such spreadsheet software’s to the current Excel 2016.
It is one of the most widely spreadsheet software available as a part of Microsoft office, which has ease of use feature and helps in storing data in organized and proper way, providing extra features such as calculation, charts, comparisons, etc.
Users for this types of database are mostly users which stores their data in noncomplex, non-relational schema mostly for personal use.
They don’t have to be software engineers, database managers or persons equipped with vast knowledge of data but can any commoner who wants to keep data in very simple form and do some calculations on day to day or periodically basis. Along with simple data Excel can manage large complex database which can give analysis and also show its graphical representation which is useful for company’s data also.
Enterprise database
These are database that handles large data which is accessed by number of users at a single point of time. It leaves behind end user database and manage huge data across systems that is data need not be on single system but may be distributed in different systems. SQL Server, Oracle, IBM Db2 are some of the popular enterprise database software.
Let us take an example of Oracle which is a popular Relational database management system(RDBMS) which has started its journey in 1979 and flew to cloud computing in its latest release Oracle 18c.
It is one of the most popular RDBMS which handles large amount of data with ease, which can be easily retrieved using SQL, also providing data mining and warehousing features. Usage with Web tools is making it a new generation, modern database which is breaking conventional personal server database. Thus it is very widely used among companies and industries to handle their offline and online data securely, where users need some data software related skill set in order to manage such database.
Marketing of Oracle is based on three ideas
Though Enterprise database give solution to most of database related problems but sometimes we does not need such complex systems such as small grocery shops, small repair shops. In these we can easily use end user database as compared to create large complex databases in oracle simple use Excel for ease.
