a. Firewall are the excellent security protection mechanism for networks. It protects them from intruders and establishes secure barrier between a system and external entity. Firewall are available with variety of functionality and features. Firewall protection are available at network level, circuit level, application level and state level.

b. The application gateway firewall also known as proxies resides on proxy servers. This firewall provides the proxies for specific applications. Application level gateways configured as a web proxy and do not allow ftp, gopher, telnet and other traffic through the firewall. These firewall blocks website based on content and not based on IP address.
