Question
Explanation / Answer
Answer to the first four sub-parts is given below:
a. Because the support for Bothura is itself low (227/1000 = 22.7%), and the lift is low too. Lift = (Support for A&C / N) / ((Support for A / N)*(Support for C / N)). Here, lift comes out to be 1.16 which is just above 1. That means the rule A-->C is not strongly supported by the data.
b. 52.99% = 204/385 = (Support for A&C)/(Support for A)
Ratio of 2.20 = 2*(Support for A&C / N) / ((Support for A / N)*(Support for C / N))
= 2*(227/1000) / ((227/1000)*(862/1000)) = 2*0.227 / (0.227*0.862) = 2.2
c. Since, the ratio = 2*Lift, that means highest lift is 1.16 (=2.32/2), which is not a high lift value. High lift values may that suggest associations exist. However, looking at this overall data we cannot conclude that if a customer buys A, then he/she would also buy C.
d. Decreasing the minimum support will give us more no. of rules to analyze from. This might also lead to increase in lift values which can help us.
e. Decreasing the minimum confidence will give us less no. of rules to analyze from and hence restricting us to be able to do any further analysis on the data.
