Question
WING (Winner Information Network Generation) is the software for data and metrics that are used by Hi-T Corporation which seemed to be useful but caused chaos to the company as it has not been updated and maintained to recent date. It was a useful software as it kept all the tracks of from inventories to the machines. The software was able to able to detect and alter the employees that parts are running low, schedule of the soak process, and machine idles. All these detections were done based on data and metrics that the Corporation has updated. However, once all the data and metrics are not kept up to the date, it causes a chaos.
What’s worse is that if the update has not been completed, it will cause more chaos and the Corporation will be left will a list of updates that needs to be done to keep the software on track. Also, as managers and supervisors use their own manual control over the software not working according to the WING software it gets more isolated. WING was built to keep the Corporation on the track of everything, but it ended up obsolete software that creates more non-value-added activities and causing chaos. WING was not kept up to date with accurate data and WING software was not maintained with the current or future LEAN processes.

Explanation / Answer
Hi,
Thanks for the question.
In the case study, the company ahs opted for a software to manage the data and records so that the processes are streamlined and no chaos happens at any given point of time in the organization. The intended flow of the information is as follows:
1. All employees will fill in the data in the WING regarding the various facets of their work.
2. All managers and supervisors will validate the data entries and then make the necessary comments.
3. The top management will take the necessary decision based on the availability of the data.
The problem with the system is that if there is any problem with the data, the entire flow of the information breaks and no management or person can make the correct decision based on the data. To avoid these kind of situations, it is absolutely mandatory that the data is sacrosanct.
The idea behind using the software is good but the implementation of it is not the implementation also depends upon the employees and how they perceive these changes to be. As of now, the system is not implemented successfully.
