Question
What advertising regulation, rule or situation best demonstrates consumer advocacy. Explain why you believe this is true and how has its improved advertising guidelines going forward.
In my opinion:
The Federal Trade Commission Act (FTC) protects the right and interest of the consumer based on unfair and deceptive practices regarding the marketing and promotion of a product. I believe this is true because the law is quite constitutional and advanced and has amendments and when required as well. I believe that this regulation works for industry and is effective in maintaining its objective.
Student’s response in my opinion:
I agree, FTC has consumers best interest because it protects the buyers and keeps business going. when I shop and I'm going in the store to buy something I seen in an ad, I go in there to make sure it matches with it and sometimes it doesn't, but overall it matches up.
How do I response to her perspective?
Explanation / Answer
FTC protects consumers against false claims rather than puffery which is an exaggaration. False claims include defective products, key features not working, pathetic customer service, additional costs/charges on the customers etc. rather than just protecting customers against purchasing the products they see in the advertisements.
