Ursula Burns former Xerox CEO, conveys in her interview,"business is made for men." Whether that is believable is a matter of opinion, however, what I would like for you to focus your memorandum content on, is what do you think about her life's story? We in the Bryan School of Business and Economics focus on developing and hopefully, graduating problem solvers from our business programs. With that conveyed, what did you learn from Burns' life that made her a problem-solver and the strong motivator in her successful career? What did you learn from her narrative that you can apply to your quest for business success and why you believe it will work well for you? Answer these questions in a one full page memorandum. Subject: My takeaways learning from the title “Business is made for Men”
The life story of the lady is very similar to the story of many American Africans. It is common to be living in shoddy basic accommodation dominated by characters indulging in drugs abuse and all kind of varied unpleasant characters and the overall hygiene levels are very poor.
As I feel two type of people emerge from such pathetic surroundings on which they have no control or say, normally more downtrodden and struggling types who give up and decide to live as their peer and surroundings.
Type two is the fighters who get repulsed by their birth surroundings and circumstances and without blaming anyone whether family or their social set up they get determined to see the other side of life which can make their life successful and upgraded.
The lady here is exactly typing two where she was determined to get a better life for herself and went on to make a success of herself. As rightly highlighted by a person of her stature she had two negatives, glass ceiling created for woman and for people of different cultural background in her case the color.
I think she is an extremely strong lady who has broken all the norms and boundaries of society by her grit and determination, she has used her good brains and skill set acquired over the years to be a commanding position in life.,She is heard and written about because she is in a position to be heard because of her acquired excellent credentials and status.
She became successful by taking all the factors in her life analytically; she took the goods and dumped the bad qualities. Being from a poor setup she still takes her family as her strength which clearly highlights the gratitude and attitude of the lady. Her strength to speak up for her rights in open forum has gone in a long way to her help her become what she is today, her frankness has rewarded her by getting people to take her seriously and think what she is saying. At no point you see her feeling sorry for herself or deriding her background or color. She has incredible strength and determination to get the best out of life. She is self-motivated and also comments its good to have many good children.
