We have carried out the interview with the plant HR line manager as per the points given in the question. Following is the summary of the interview.
Response on build the right team (i.e. HR planning, job analysis, job descriptions, job specifications, fair employment, recruitment/selection): team building in the organization is critical initiative and the manager expressed that they worked systematically to build the right team in the organization based on our planning for the functional roles required to support the business. This was supported with the detail job analysis and we have come out with job profile which states the required specification for the particular job/roles for the organization. Then based on job profiles, we have planned for fair recruitment, and selection process so that we can get the suitable candidates in the organziatio.
Response on determine the types of training and development methods to maximize employee performance (i.e. types of training, performance appraisals):Training in the organization is very essential and it is planned based on the development plan for the functional employees in consultation with the functional head. Thus the training needs are worked out based on the job requirements, skill gaps, functional leader inputs and future strategic requirement of the organization. Performance and appraisal inputs are also considered as performance appraisal brings the key gaps in the employees.
Response on maintaining workforce (i.e. compensation, benefits, retention): The top most critical process for HR is compensation, benefits and retention of employees. These are interlinked and employees are working for these points only. Thus compensation and benefits are worked based on market investigation and we lined up as per our corporate guidelines to pay based on median in the market. This helps in better retention of employees and we started focus program for retention of top talent employees.
Response on managing diversity (i.e. three-generation workforce, glass ceiling, multicultural workforce, prejudice, discrimination, stereotypes): Diversity is the emergent initiative, which brings great benefits for the organization. Thus we have embraced the diversity in our organization with having employees from multiple generations like old age and new age employees, multicultural and single cultural employees. We have people from different locations, our employees covered almost all of the regions of the India and we have few foreign employees as well. Discrimination is well management and it is ensured proper care and attention provided in avoiding the discrimination in the organization.
