Policy templates help in presenting the information in the policy announcement in a structured and well-designed manner. Also it helps the consumer of the information to quickly go through the announcement and understand the various features of the policy announcement if that person is already familiar with the policy template format. Thus it eliminates the time involved in searching for the information as the template serves as a ready reference or an index to look for sections in the policy and directly going to that section for retrieving the relevant information without searching the entire document.

Also a standardized numbering scheme helps to identify and refer the earlier policy documents which may have been modified or revised or referred in the current policy. Without a standardized numbering scheme, it becomes very difficult to refer to the earlier documents and it would become very cumbersome to identify the earlier documents.
