Absolutely. Different types of environments have different scheduling needs and require different techniques. Scheduling is a method in which the work is allotted or assigned to the resources to ensure that the work is completed. Scheduling in a low-volume environment involves the use of priority rules such as First Come First Served (FCFS). High-volume environment involves line balancing and design. In summary, scheduling is a process in which the work is arranged, controlled and optimized and the workloads are distributed based on rule specifications or priority rules. On the other hand, project time management tools and techniques involves a simple system such as To Do List, Weekly Review, Time blocking, etc. All these techniques or tools for project time management do not involve any rule as in scheduling. Also, the assignment of work to the resources is not detailed in the project time management technique. The project time management tools and techniques basically involve three steps namely (a) prioritize the work, (b) weekly review and (c) Time blocking. Once the tasks are prioritized they are allotted time for effective performance. This is in contrary to scheduling in different environments. Scheduling involves routing, bottleneck, due date, slack, and queuing.

Gantt Charts are used in low-volume operations which involve job shop operations and it is flexible to adapt to the environment. Gantt Charts or load charts in project scheduling is used to determine how workload is related to the capacity of a resource. Gantt charts is used in operations scheduling (both manufacturing and services) to highlight the use of the equipment and facilities, receipt of materials and how the human capital is scheduled for the process. The usage of the Gantt Charts cannot be used interchangeably though the purpose of a Gantt Chart is the same that provides a visual control of the activities. This is because the purpose and variables in a project scheduling is completely different from the operations scheduling. The two different scheduling methods are used for two extremely different purposes. The project variables are different from that of the operations scheduling and thus they cannot be interchanged due to their nature and adaptability to the environment.
