Question

Q#2) Catharsis and revenge is something that everyone lusts for. That sweet, sweet feel of removing those negative emotions from your mind and having a sense of euphoria that something unfavorable is happening to the person that did you wrong. Each person has a right to that feeling. And each person has to pay for their crimes. Just losing your job or doing some community service is not going to be enough. If you don’t know the difference between right and wrong, it is probably too late for you. Some people may argue that it would be cruel and unusual to just eliminate criminals. But I propose that for all crimes over a certain age, the person needs to be sent to an island for the rest of their life. People who do not believe in this kind of harshness will say that this solution is over the top. Others may ask, where is the island that would hold all our criminals? But we have to get imaginative to get out of the rut of our society’s problems.

A - Does the paragraph in question 2 (above) provide evidence for its claims? Choose from yes or no (below) and explain!

YES IT PROVIDES EVIDENCE FOR ITS CLAIMS

If you believe the paragraph provides sufficient evidence, please list the sentences that function as evidence.

NO IT DOES NOT PROVIDE EVIDENCE FOR ITS CLAIMS

If you see any claims that has not evidence backing it up, type at least one claim/sentence from the above paragraph that is not backed up by persuasive evidence in the paragraph:

B- How would you explain what a claim is?

Explanation / Answer

A) Ans:- Yes it provides evidence for its claims. It claim that we have to get imaginative to get out of the rut of our society’s problems and the imagination is that for all crimes over a certain age, the person needs to be sent to an island for the rest of their life.

B) Ans:- The claim is that we have to get imaginative to get out of the rut of our society’s problems. Simply maintaining the status quo is not going to solve the problem. The criminals must be given punishment in such a way that others would think hundred times before commiting a crime. So different ways must be thought and imagination should be used to think of punishment.
