Human resource management is one of the crucial function of the organisation. It helps in management of human capital by employing people, training and developing their skills, framing policies and developing compensation structure.
The basic roles of the HR professional are as follows:
1. Developing hiring strategies
2. Training policies for HR management
3. Designing compensation and benefits structure
4. Training and development
5. Health and safety of worker
6. Understanding laws that affect employment
All the above factors play a major role in employee retention. It is important to understand the organisations objective and accordingly hire employees who align with the culture of organisation. Training and induction program ensure that the employee is aware and updated of the knowledge required for working efficiently on the assigned project. Regular appraisal and compensation and benefits structure plays a key role in motivating the employee to work smartly. In manufacturing industries training and safety of worker is of utmost importance. There can be incidents when the HR manager has to deal with discrimination laws and labour laws. The strength of the HR team is proven during the difficult time of the organisation like recession or any economic unstability.
In today's time the role of HR manager has also undergone certain change that includes use of social media for communicating important information to all the employees. That is also being trend of flexible Work hours and work from home facility. Work from home facilities has played a key role in retailing women employees who tend to resign from services while playing a role of a mother. Training and development has also incorporated use of technology to communicate the required information to the Employees. Due to globalisation handling multicultural team has also been a Priority. It is important for the HR to align the strategies with that of long term vision of the organisation. Use of professional social media like LinkedIn and other social media like Twitter and Facebook are being used by the HR managers in order to judge the capabilities of the employee. Hence it has been important for the HR manager to maintain the social image on the social media platforms. Hence it can be seen that advent of Internet and social media has played a crucial role in the changing role of Human Resource Management
