The problem was that the "old-timers" had known their jobs so well that no one had ever bothered to draw up job description for them. when about 30 new employees began taking their posts, there was general confusion about what they should do and how they should do it. The hurricane quickly became old news to the firm's out - of - state customers who wanted filters, not excuses. Dr. Hishamuddin, the firm's president, was at his wits end. He had about 30 new employees, 10 old - timers, and his original factory supervisor, Amy Mastura. He decided to meet with Associate Professor Tuan Hj.Salleh, a consultant from the UTM Management School who immediately had the old-timers fill out a job questionnaire that listed all their duties. Arguments ensued almost at once because both Dr. Hishamuddin and Amy thought the old-timers were exaggerating to make themselves look more important, while the old-timers insisted that the list faithfully reflected their duties. Meanwhile the customers clamored for their filters. Should Dr. Hishamuddin and Associate Professor Tn.Hj.Salleh ignore the old-timers' protests and write up the job descriptions as they see fit? Why? Why not? How would you go about resolving the differences? How would you have conducted the job analysis?

2. I would have conducted the job analysis after interviewing the factory supervisor and the old timers. I would also have observed the old timers while they are at work. This would have helped me understand what the important tasks of the job are, how they are carried out, and the necessary human qualities needed to complete the job successfully. It would have helped me to understand the nature and conditions of the work.
