Question

A public service organization has found that its membership consists almost entirely of wealthy Caucasian women over 60. While it has been open to males for decades and has sought to diversify its membership across age, income and ethnic groups, it has not succeeded.

What do you think the decision and the information needs should be in this case? Should the first priority be to determine why previous efforts have failed? What alternative courses of action would you recommend evaluating through research?

Explanation / Answer

First, we need to find out why previous efforts have failed, we need to learn from our mistakes and see the problems with a new vision.

Perpahrs the public organization is only helping women of certain age and therefore most of the members are women.

We need to evaluate all the projects of the organization, and include projecst where men of all ages can be involved and feel they can make a change.

For example, we could focus on public schools who need donations of books or time as a teachers, men can help on this matter, we can paint a park where gang members often sell drugs so the children can play again there with out such threat.
