The painting named “Both Members of this Club” was created by George Bellows in 1909. The painting by Bellows depicts a scene where two men are engaged in a prizefighting ring. The two men are racially discriminated with the tone of the color. One man is black American while the other is a white American. The black man is forcing himself onto the white man who is already on his knees and is about to jolt down. The shade of color on the ribs and chin of the white man indicates the fierceness of the fight. The Black man is firm and is taking on the white man.
The atmosphere of the boxing is too dark and the lighting is too dull. This creates a feeling of a very secretive atmosphere. This atmosphere also indicates that the prizefighting is being conducted against the law which prohibits public prizefighting. The face of the onlookers is not very clear though. The grin on one face of the onlooker explains us that they are enjoying the match.
