All components of globalization have increased dramatically since the 1970s. Many companies in the U.S. now do business abroad, invest abroad, and have relocated facilities abroad. Given the extent of this corporate internationalization, why haven’t unions followed suit to the same degree? In what ways have unions begun to collaborate internationally? The unions have not followed the internationalization with the same pace as organizations because unions mainly lack resources to do due diligence on part of employees and other countries labor, social and political laws. Also, there is severe restrictions on the movement of labor from one country to another because of politically and economically driven motives. In trade blocs where labor can move freely between participating countries, labor unions have greater power and have stepped outside the boundaries of the nations.
