Information technology and mass communication have helped in accelerating the social and economic changes taking place across the geographical areas confined by different economies. Today, people know more about each other in comparison to the past. Today, attention is being given to the ways and means to reduce inequality, enhance prosperity and tolerance and decrease the gap between different culture. Besides, active participation is done not only by the government, but also, by many other private organizations and it has only become possible due to the active role played by the mass communication and information technology. People have got increased access to information that leads to change. Accordingly, government designs policies and change take place slowly but steadily.
It is the positive impact made by the expansion of mass communication and information technology that has reduced the gap and led the change. It has integrated technology with action plan taken up by the government and civil societies for whom the action plan is drafted. Thus, benefits have increased by many times. Besides, it has also contributed in increasing national income, domestic production and per capita income due to the communication of information to everyone. Thus, the information economy has played an active role in the nation's development.
Though, there are negative aspects of the growing influence of technology. For example, it should not invade the privacy of individuals as it is capable of doing it through different means such as GPS. Also, mass communication should not be used just for the sale of sensational news. But, it should be used to offer constructive solutions to the rising problems and making people aware of it.
As far as the history is concerned. Mass communication has actively contributed in bring in revolutionary changes in the system. In the 1960s, civil rights movements in the USA were spread through the channels of mass communication to lead the change. As a result, black Americans got the voting rights among many other rights to equality.
