Isolation Procedure Use enough repellant to obtain 100-200 mg of DEET. The following procedure may require modification, depending on the concentration of DEET in the repellant. Add "OFF" pump- spray, 7% DEET (2 ml) to water (25 mL) in a separatory funnel. Extract the aqueous solution with Et20 (15 mL). Wash the organic layer with water (25 mL) then brine (20 mL After drying the organic solution using Na2SO4, evaporate the solvent using a rotary evaporator

Explanation / Answer

Here the active ingredient is DEET or N,N diethylmeta toluamide and it goes to ether layer .

All the other inactive ingredients will goes to aqueous solution.
