Question
Calculate the molar solubility of silver chloride CdCl(s), knowing that its p_K_sp = = 28.85. Calculate the solubility product of barium sulfate BaSO_4, knowing that its solubility in pure water is 1.0 times 10^-5 M. Knowing that p_K_sp of cupper hydroxide Cu(OH)_2(s) is 19.36, calculate: (a) the solubility of Cu(OH)_2 in pure water, (b) the [Cu^+] at pH 4, and (c) the [Cu^2+] at pH 11. The solubility of MgCO_3(s) in pure water is 6.32 times 10^-3 M. What is the solubility of MgCO_3(s) if you add 5 time 10^-3 M MgCl_2?Explanation / Answer
Q1.
Find molar solubility of CdCl(s)
It will dissociate as follows
CdCl(s) --> Cd+(aq) + Cl-(aq)
the Ksp is given by
Ksp = [Cd+][Cl-]
1 mol of CdCl = 1 mol of Cd = 1 mol of Cl
let "s" be solubility so
S = S mol of CdCl = S mol of Cd = S mol of Cl
Ksp = 10^-pKsp = 10^-28.85
substitute
10^-28.85 = S*S
S = sqrt(10^-28.85)
S = 3.758*120^-15 M
