Question
How many grams of potassium hydrogen phthalate are needed to prepare 250 mL of a 0.1000 mol/L solution of potassium hydrogen phthalate. (MW= 204.23) (Round off answer to nearest 0.01 g.) Show calculations for dilution of the concentrated NaOH solution to obtain 250 mL of approximately 0.20 mol/L NaOH. Explain how this reagent should be prepared, i.e. the order of the steps. (Round off answer to nearest 0.01 mL.) Prepare a solution of 0.200 mol/L HCI to be used as a reagent. Show calculations forExplanation / Answer
2) molarity of concnetrated sNaOH solution = 17mol/L = 17M
Volume of concentrated NaOH solution needed = ?
reuqired molarity = 0.20mol/L = 0.2M
volume of 0.20M solution required = 250mL
When diluting a solution we add only solvent thus number of mmoles of solute remain same before and after dilution.
thus MxV before dilution = M x V after dilution
17M x V (mL ) = 0.20 x 250mL
thus V = 2.9411mL
= 2.94 mL
