Question
Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in many over-the-counter pain relievers. Given the molecular formula for acetaminophen is C_8H_9NO_2, calculate the following. Show ALL of your calculations. Report your answers using the correct number of significant figures and use scientific notation when appropriate. The formula mass in g/mol of acetaminophen. The number of hydrogen atoms in a mole of acetaminophen. The percent by weight (wt%) of oxygen in a mole of acetaminophen The moles of acetaminophen corresponding to 45.3 g of acetaminophen. The mass in grams of 3.76 times 10^24 molecules of acetaminophen.Explanation / Answer
Hi,
a) The formula mas = 8C + 9H + N +2O
= 8*12 + 9*1 + 14 +2*16 = 151 g/mol
b) there are 9 hydrogen atoms in a mole of agiven compound
c) the percent by weight of O2 = 2*16/151 = 0.211*100 = 21.1 %
d) moles = given mass / molecular mass = 45.3/151 = 0.3 moles
