Spring 2017 ake-home Exam 4, Part A Due Date: May 12, 2017 by PM The exam 4 consists of three parts. A and B. Parts Acontains 30 mul tiple choice questions points each) and some open-ended questions (20 pointy. Part B (20 points) will be given in the class on Friday, May 12, 2017. Please attempt all question. An INK PEN must be used to answer any question. Part A: Multiple Choice Questions 1. Which processes has a AS 0? A) water freezes B) methyl alcohol condenses C propanol (g. at 555 K) propanol g at 400 K D) carbon dioxides) carbon dioxide(g) Which reaction will have the largest equilibrium constant (K) at 298K? 2 Higos) 808 2030g) 3. At 298K, 2.3 for the reaction A ae B. Does the reaction favor the formation of reactants or products? A Reactants because K B) Reactants because K 0. B, AS 0. Part A
1: Answer is A because the entropy will always be more than zero when it reaches the freezing point of the water, according to the third principle of thermodynamics .
2. Answer is D because the reaction involved has the lowest amount of thermal energy and remember that the Gibb's free energy is dependent of the enthalpy, entropy and the temperature so when you have less temperature the equilibrium phase will occur.
3. Answer is C because in a reaction wich low temperature and low Gibbs free energy it will favor the products reaction and the equilibrium will be more than one.
4. All answers can be correct but I think the most accurate one is D because for the chart in the question in a system like that the entropy can increase meanwhile the enthalpy remain constant for the principles of thermodynamics.
