Explanation / Answer

Calculate all parallel and series combos until you have one equivalent R

Two 6.4 in parallel is = 6.4x6.4/6.4+6.4 = 3.2. In series with 1.8 that is = 3.2+1.8 = 5
4 & 12 in parallel is 4•12/16 = 3, in series with 2 that is 5
5 and 5 in parallel are 5•5/5+5 = 2.5
and in series with 5 that is 7.5

Total current is 17/7.5 = 2.267 amps

voltage across the 6 resistor combo is 2.267•2.5 = 5.67 volts

That voltage causes a current in the bottom branch (4,12,2 ohm resistors) of
I = 5.67/5 = 1.134 amps

That causes a voltage across the 4/12 pair of
E = 1.134•3 = 3.402 volts

And that voltage across 12 ohms causes a current of
I = 3.402/12 = 0.2835 amps
