Question
In an existing process, 180 kgmol/h of C,H, (P) is mixed with 420 kgmol/h of a mixture containing 50% CO (C) and 50% H, (H) and with a recycle stream containing propylene and then fed to a reactor, 30% of the propylene fed to the reactor is consumed. The reactor effluent is sent to a separator. The desired product butanal (B) is removed in one stream, unreacted CO and H, are removed in a second stream, and unreacted P is recovered and recycled. 6 ?, ?-Separator F-&C;, H Mixer Reactor ?, ?, ? H, B C,H 2 How many material balance equations are there for the process?Explanation / Answer
I am only counting the material balance equations needed to solve the problem as that is only asked if u need further assistance feel free to comment.
Mixer - 1 overall mass balance (1+2=3)
3 component balance for C, H, and P.
Separator - 1 overall mass balance (4=5+6+7)
4 component balance for C, H, B, and P.
4 equation (relating streams 3 and 4) for each component of the product stream-4 of the reactor (using stoichiometry and 30% conversion )
so in total 13 material balance equations.
