Question
Hello, I recently came upon some terms in my organic chemistryclass which I am having trouble distinguishing between. Thisis a part of a stereochemistry/conformation/nomenclature section weare doing now. If you could explain each term for me sothat I can understand what each is and why they are different Iwill be forever in your debt! Thank you in advance! Here are the terms: 1. ConformationalIsomer 2. Constitutional Isomer
3. Configurational Isomer
4. Structural Isomer
And then: Enantiomers and Diasteremers.

Explanation / Answer
Free rotation around thecarbon-carbon bond in ethane leads to many different structurescalled conformationalisomers, or conformers. Two major types of structures occurduring the bond rotation: one called eclipsed in which the C-Hbonds are directly across from each other, and the other calledstaggered in which the C-H bonds are lined up between eachother.
