Question
Calorimetry Lab BEFORE YOU BEGIN: post your predictions on the Energy Forum for each section. Activity 1: You will use the formula mc ?T =- mc ?7to determine specific heat capacity of water. 1. How does the temperature and specific heat capacity of a sample of water (the calorimeter) change as a different mass or temperature of hot metal is added to it? 2. How does the temperature and specific heat capacity of a sample of water (the calorimeter) change as the volume of water is changed? Activity 2: You will be using the formulas Q 1. How does the molar enthalpy of dissolution change with the amount of substance added to water? 2. How does the molar enthalpy of dissolution change with the volume of water the substance is added to? Activity 3: You will be using the formulas Qn 1. How does the molar enthalpy of neutralization change with the amount and/or concentration of acid and base present?Explanation / Answer
Activity 1:
1.Q=Cm*deltaT, Q=heat added , C=specific heat, m=mass , deltaT=change in temperature
* Temperature will increas if u add any hot metal into it,heat energy needed to increase the tempersture of an object, the amount of enegy neede depends on the mass of the object
* specific heat also increase if u add hot metal into it.as the substance heats up , the average kinetic energy of the molecule increases, the collisions impart enough energy to allow rotation to occur, rotation then contributes to the internal energy and raises the specific heat.
2*.liquids ten to expand when their temparature increase, so volume of water increase means temperature also increases.
*specific heat capacity is constant for perticular object
