Question
Can someone help me understand entropy Entropy- is a thermodynamic quantity that is a measure of the dispersion of energy of the system among the different possible ways that system can contain that energy. Thereby, reducing its ability to do work If a system entropy value gets smaller, one can argue its ability to do work decreases because number of micro states of the system decreases? Compare to if a system entropy gets larger, one can argue it has a higher chance to dispense ts energy to the surrounding compare to a system with a lower entropy value? If you have more things to add, it would be greatly appreciated Thank vouExplanation / Answer
Entropy is the degree of randomness or disorderness of the system.
So in a system , the gaseous particles tend to have a higher entropy than the solid and liquid particles.
Greater the randomness , higher will be the entropy of the system. When a solid decomposes into its gaseous particles , the entropy of the system increases , likewise when the gaseous and liquid particles combine to form solid products , the entropy of the sytem decreases.
