Explanation / Answer

Pure compound and Pure Element are pure substances. Here pure in a sense indicates free energy of the system which also means enthalpy of formation.

Pure element means it contains a single element with no traces of impurities. It is possible ideally, but in reality, the pure element does not exist. Neither does pure compound. Free energy of the system decreases due to impurities and also melting point thereby reducing its enthalpy. Similarly, pure compound. And pure element cannot break down into pieces but a pure compound can.
