Question
What proportion of progeny from this cross are expected be late-blooming, purple-leaved, round
eggplant-bearing, tall-stemmed pants?
explain this answer to me because I don't know where the .13 is coming from
1.) In eggplants, on chromosome 1, gene e which controls blooming time is 26 map units away from genep
which controls leaf color. Early blooming (E') is completely dominant to late blooming (e). Purple
leaves (P) are completely dominant to green leaves (p).
On chromosome 4, gene r controls fruit shape; round (R) is completely dominant to long (r).
On chromosome 6, gene h controls stem height; short (ll) is completely dominant to tall (ft).
A plant that is heterozygous for all four genes is self-fertilized. Specifically, the plant is in cls for genes
e and p
Explanation / Answer
Since its a heterozygous plant ...... The alleles are produced in 50% each ......like E ..50% and e...50% .....P ...50% and p...50% ......r ..50% and R...50% .....T (for tall) ...50% and t (for short) ..50% ....so if the plant is self fertilized ......
For trait blooming : Ee × Ee
EE , Ee, eE, ee ( this is what we get from the above cross) so there is 25% chance of the progeny for being late blooming
For trait purple leaves : Pp × Pp
PP, Pp, pP, pp (there is 75% chance for the plant to be purple leaved)
For trait round :Rr × Rr
RR, Rr, rR, rr ( there is 75% chance for the plant being purple leaves)
For trait long stems : Tt × Tt
TT, Tt, tT, tt (there is 75% chnace for being tall stemmed)
And now when all these are viewed together there is 25 % chance of the progeny for being late blooming, purple leaves, round fruits and long stems ......
But since the gene e and P are located 26 map units away there is only 13% chance of the progeny for being late blooming, purple leaves, round fruits, long stems.
