Question
15. You are driving around in a 100 m-radius circle at a leisurely 70 m/s. How many g's are you experiencing? How long does it take you to drive around the circle once? a. b. If you hit the brakes and slow down at 2.3 m/s' over the next ten seconds, then continue dr iving at your new speed, answer the following questions: c. What is your new speed? d. How long will it take you to drive around the circle now? e. How far did you drive during the ten seconds while you were slowing down? f. How many trips around the circle did you drive during those ten seconds?Explanation / Answer
a) acentripetal = v^2/ r= 70^2/ 100 = 49 m/s^2
g's = 49/ 9.8=5
b) v= 2pir/t
T = 2pir/ V= 2x 3.14 x 100/ 70 = 8.97 seconds apprx
c)retardation = -2.3 m/s^2, t= 10 seconds
v = 70 - 2.3 x10=47 m/s
d)t = 2pi r/v= 2x 3.14 x 100/ 47=13.36 seconds
e)s =70 x 10 - 0.5 ( 2.3) 10^2= 585 m
f) no of trips= 585/ ( 2x3.14 x 100) =0.93 apprx
