Explanation / Answer

1)  The study of the social aspects of health provides insights into both the personal and social context of dying, death and grieving. The society changes our attitude ranging from societal and cultural attitudes to death, to care of the dying, rituals observed with regard to dead bodies, funeral customs and the expression of grief. The authors have also highlighted the important role of healthcare and medical practice in shaping dying and death.

2) The term postmodernism itself is broad and is used in a range of academic disciplines when describing the profound social changes that occurred at the end of the twentieth century in what sociologists refer to as the move from industrial to post-industrial society. As a result, contemporary life is less certain, identities are more fluid and society has become more diverse, pluralistic and fragmented. It resulted in more independent and fragmented families.

3) I think the theory of healthcare organization by systems provides the most compelling interpretations of healthcare organisations. As this theory focuses on the way different parts of organizations interact and work together and is dominated by the structural functionalist approach which is a mixture of the structural perspective and the functionalist approach i think this is better approach than bureaucracies. The key concepts within the systems theory of organizations are sub-systems, roles and role conflict.

4) While medical power has been seen as hegemonic in nature, there is much evidence there has been a decline in medical autonomy over the past two decades. Positive consequence of decline in medical autonomy is professionalisation of other health professions. The negative consequences include challenges from other professions, patient empowerment and enhanced management control.
