There is a consistent male preponderance in autism of about 4:1 males females. Although there may be a subgroup with X-linked inheritance, X-linked inheritance is excluded in many families due to male-to-male transmission. Why does male to male transmission exclude X-linked inheritance. a. it is only inherited through mitochondrial DNA b. it is only inherited through microsatellite DNA c. it is only inherited through STR's d. males only pass Y chromosomes through their gametes c. It does not exclude X-linked inheritanceExplanation / Answer
5. There is .................. X-linked inheritance?
d. males only pass Y chromosome through their gamete
In human beings, the males have XY and the females have XX sex chromosomes. So, the ova can only have X-chromosomes. But the sperms can have either X or Y chromosome. In order to get a male child, sperm with Y fuses with ovum with X chromosome. While in case of a female child, sperm with X fuses with ovum with X chromosome. Thus, fathers transmit their X chromosomes to daughters only and Y chromosomes to thr sons. Hence male to male (father to son) transmission of X chromosome does not occur (since only Y chromosome is transmitted).
