Question

This week we cover a lot of ground - from the end of Reconstruction all the way to the dawn of WWI.

During this time, the United States begins to expand its power beyond its borders for the first time. This is called “Imperialism.” Prior to the 1890s, America largely maintained an isolationist policy and avoided emulating the European model of dominating peoples, countries, and resources through colonization. The Spanish-American War would forever change that policy. For the first time, America will possess new lands that exist beyond its territorial boundaries. What should the United States do with this land and its peoples? Should a former colony possess colonies?

What were the major arguments put forward that supported US expansion overseas? If you were alive during this time, would you have supported American expansion? Why or why not?

6) Imperialsm is actually started with interest in busness and occpying markets in other states. Then to control markets, Political domination is required hence wars.

7) So, If I was born in that era, even though I wish peace and not imperialism, but the situation would lead me also to go ahead with imperialsit policies as similar threat expectation from other dominationg countries like Europe.
