Answer the given questions based on the article attached?

what king of a disease is this, the organ(s) it affects, whom does it affect, what is the pathology of the disease ?

What are the biological molecules involved, their mechanism of action, their biological effect, how they are regulated/what do they regulate, any models used for the study of the disease?

Identify the major mechanism/molecules involved and discuss briefly any questions that still need to be answered about the molecular basis of the disease?

Explanation / Answer

1. Inflammatory bowel disease: it is related to or affects most parts in the digestive tract. Crohn's disease is a type of IBD which has an effect on the intestinal lining.

Ulcerative colitis: affects mucosa and submucosal lining of the colon

pathology: diffuse disease limited to colon, rectal involvement with continuous proximal involvement; no skip lesions; no deep fissural ulcers; no transmural sinus tracts, no transmural lymphoid aggregates or granulomas

2. Colorectal Cancer: sometimes also called as colon cancer or rectal cancer. It is any type of tumor or bump occurring in the rectum or colon

pathology: Generally discovered on colonoscopy and after biopsy, it is confirmed

3. type II diabetes: it is a disease related to the insulin usage where cells are inefficient in utilizing that insulin

pathology: Mild/moderate insulin deficiency, may be due to beta cell damage

Beta cells may be “exhausted” due to chronic hyperglycemia and persistent beta cell stimulation
