Question

The data is for water it is

Conical vial = 24.355 g Conical vial with water = 24.856 g Difference : 0.501 g

Conical vial = 24.380 g Conical vial with hexane = 24.763 g Difference : 0.383 g

Find the density of hexane and water

Two different experiments are performed using this network. In the first, a current source was connected to Port #2 and the voltage was measured at Port #1. In the second, a current source was connected at Port #1 and the current was measured at Port #2 with the two terminals connected to each over via an ideal conductor. The results of these two experiments are shown below. Using these results, determine the values of the three unknown resistors. Figure 2: Connection and Results During Experiment 1. Figure 3: Connection and Results During Experiment 2

Explanation / Answer

For Water

Conical vial = 24.355 g

Conical vial with water = 24.856 g

Difference (mass of water) : 0.501 g

So, density of water = mass / volume = 0.501 g / 0.5 mL = 1.002 g/mL

For Hexane

Conical vial = 24.380 g

Conical vial with hexane = 24.763 g

Difference (mass of hexane) : 0.383 g

So, density of hexane = mass / volume = 0.383 g / 0.5 mL = 0.766 g/mL

These measured values of density are in good agreement with your literature values.
