Question

What abnormalities might you expect to see in the urine of someone whose podocytes and glomerular basement membranes are damaged and explain why? Drinking alcohol inhibits ADH secretion. How would you expect the activities of the nephron and collecting system to change after consuming alcohol and why would you expect it? Pretend that you eat a large amount of salted peanuts without drinking any water. How would you expect this to affect the movement of water between the fluid compartments in your body and describe why?

Explanation / Answer

After drinking alcohol ADH secretion decreases due to which the water re-absorption from the the urinary tract decreases due to which the person undergo high urination and frequent urination which is much diluted in comparison to the normal time urination...!!

After eating the salted peas without drinking water It the salt will be present in the body more than the normal rate which will lead to the hyper osmosis condition resulting in the loss of the water from inside the cell to the outside of the cell i.e in the periplasmic fluid..

If the podicytes and glomerular basement membrane gets damaged ot can lead to the improper filtration of the glomerular filtrate which can also lead to passing of proteins, glucose and other substances in the urine which should not be passed in the normal condition..!
