Question

A laboratory mouse has a particular locus in its genome that contains an A-T nuclutide pair at particular site.this mouse accedently escaped its gage ,found its way to the chemical cabinet ,and got exposed to some dimethylsulfate ,draw a schamatic of what could happen to this base pair if it were inaccurately replicated by DNA polymerase to leave a mutation in the daughter DNA please give me the answer in details with explanation how you analyses the question to get the answer ??!!! Explanation / Answer

The dimethyl sulfate attacks the nitrogen sites in these nucleic acids. The DMS causes repair dependent , indirect mutagenesis within the nucleotides. The dimethyl sulfate causes the attack by an Sn2 mechanism. This occurs on the 7th carbon of the adenine moiety, I.e. Resulting in an N7 methyl adenine. Also, this can result in a 3 methyl adenine that causes mispairing of the bases. There can be a depurination of the 3-methylated adenine, which results in mutations. If the DNA pair is not repaired by the DNA polymerase, then the methylated base pair will continue to be replicated in the next cycle and result in mispairing of the DNA.
