Question
Some calorimeters measure percentage transmittance (%T) only. If a solution has a %T of 73.5%, then what is the value of absorbance? If a solution has an absorbance of 0.3333, then what is the value of the T%?Please help! Please show the calculations, too! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Explanation / Answer
We know that,
Absorbance, A = 2 - log10(%T)
%T = 73.5%
Putting in above equation
A = 2 - log10(73.5)
A = 2 - 1.866
A = 0.134
(ii). Absorbance, A = 0.3333
0.3333 = 2 - log10(%T)
log10(%T) = 1.6667
%T = 101.6667
%T = 46.42%
